How REMICADE Works to Treat Ankylosing Spondylitis

The immune system protects the body by responding to "invaders" like bacteria, viruses, and other foreign matter that enter your body by producing antibodies and putting them into action to fight off the "invaders". In ankylosing spondylitis (AS), TNF can cause your immune system to attack healthy tissues in your body and cause inflammation and damage. If ankylosing spondylitis is left untreated, it can cause permanent damage to your spine.

  • REMICADE is in a class of breakthrough drugs, called biologics. REMICADE can reduce the inflammatory process that causes the pain, fatigue, and other symptoms of AS.
  • REMICADE works with your immune system to block TNF-alpha, a protein in your body that triggers the inflammation leading to symptoms of AS.
  • REMICADE has been proven to relieve many AS symptoms, such as spinal pain (pain in the back, neck, and hip), fatigue, and morning stiffness. Individual results may vary.
  • For many patients with active AS, REMICADE can provide rapid and sustained symptom relief in as soon as two weeks.

Individual results may vary. Talk to your doctor to see if REMICADE is right for you. Please read the Medication Guide and discuss any questions or symptoms with your doctor.
