If your psoriatic arthritis involves skin inflammation, or psoriatic plaques, there are a few things you can do to help manage these symptoms.

  • Psoriatic arthritis can affect fingernails and toenails. If you are working with your hands, either in the garage or in the garden, wear protective gloves. You may also want to wear shoes or sneakers to protect your toenails.
  • Brief exposure to moderate amounts of sun can help heal skin lesions. Apply sunscreen before you go out to avoid burning, and don’t stay in the sun for long periods of time.
  • Moisturize. Try a relaxing bath in oil, Epsom salts, or oiled oatmeal. These substances may bring temporary relief from inflammation and scaly, itchy skin. Moisturize your skin after your bath.
