Diagnosing Psoriasis

There is no specific diagnostic test for psoriasis. You may wish to consult a dermatologist if you are experiencing psoriasis symptoms. The dermatologist will discuss your symptoms and may ask you questions about your family medical history to find out if anyone in your family has or had psoriasis.

If your psoriasis symptoms are present, it may be easier for the dermatologist to make a diagnosis. In some cases, the dermatologist may decide to take a biopsy, or sample of the affected skin, to examine under a microscope in order to make an accurate diagnosis and to rule out other types of skin conditions.

If you have been diagnosed with psoriasis, learn more about your treatment options.
