Understanding IV treatment with REMICADE®

REMICADE® is prescribed along with methotrexate and is given as an infusion. This means it is given through a needle placed in a vein, usually in your arm. The infusion is given either in your doctor's office or in a treatment center over a 2-hour period.

With REMICADE®, many details of the treatment process are taken care of for you. A doctor or nurse will determine the right amount of medication for you and will give you your treatment. He or she will monitor you throughout the infusion and for a period of time afterward. He or she may give you medicine before the infusion to prevent or reduce side effects.

Every time you receive REMICADE®, a doctor or nurse will carefully calculate the dose that is right for you, based on your individual weight. The dose can also be adjusted based on your rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. This may help you respond better to treatment.

If your REMICADE® dose has to be increased, it is important to talk with your doctor about the increased possibility of infections.

During the infusion, you can relax and read a book, listen to music, or take a nap. And you’ll always have access to a healthcare professional.
